Irina Sheppard, Counseling Intern
Available Evenings & Saturdays
Irina Sheppard is a Masters Level Counseling Intern, with experience working with couples, families, and individuals, including adolescents. Irina has completed her coursework at Governors State University, with this internship concluding her requirements for graduating with a Master of Arts degree in Marriage, Couple and Family Counseling. Irina has previously earned a Bachelor’s degree, in Clinical Psychology, from Governors State University.
Irina believes that counseling can be an integral part of an individual’s life, to help them achieve their goals and to work through the regular struggles and challenges that life offers. Having applied training and experience in the Gottman Method, Irina can help couples resolve conflicts and expectation challenges to help them communicate better. Irina also considers Cognitive theory as a good method for overall counseling of individuals and families, and likes to introduce art and play therapy for both families and children that she is working with. She has found this to be a good method to make breakthroughs in otherwise silent behaviors in a household. Regardless of the methods used, Irina believes that everyone has a voice that should be heard, and that through proper counseling, she can help guide clients through self-awareness, to receive positive outcomes.
Irina has lived in the south and southwest suburbs for a number of years, and currently resides in Tinley Park. In her spare time, Irina enjoys taking long walks in our beautiful forest preserves and spending time with friends, family, and her pets.
