My name is Sheila Heard, and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and a Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC). I received my master’s degree in Marriage and Family Counseling at Governors State University in University Park, IL. I work with children, adolescents, young adults and adults and I utilize a humanistic, cognitive-behavioral and person-centered approach when working with my clients. I am also the mother of two adult children diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder.
Did you know that families who are raising loved ones with an autism spectrum disorder or other developmental disorders experience higher levels of stress, more mental health issues, and poorer physical health compared to parents raising children without disabilities? While I work with all kids, teens, adults, and families, I recognize the unique challenges that families of those with developmental disorders face. My mission is to instill hope and to provide the highest quality mental health care for parents and caregivers raising children with disabilities, the children themselves, and their siblings.
