- Bring a yoga mat. Mats are also available to borrow, but please wipe down the mat with provided cleaner after use.
- Arrive 5-10 minutes before class, if possible. The studio doors will open 15 minutes prior to the class start time.
- Wear comfortable clothing, tie your hair back if long, and be prepared to work barefoot.
- Children age 10 and over are welcome to participate in Yin Yoga, Yoga for Stress & Anxiety, and Restorative classes if they are able to practice in a manner that is respectful of others.
Yin Yoga. An all levels practice consisting of postures supported by the use of props meant for your body and mind to relax deeper using breath, stillness and gravity. Yin yoga is a practice of rest and restore that can complement your regular yoga practice or other fitness modalities. Practicing few poses with sustained hold times, Yin yoga allows for the slow and deep release of myofascial tissue, ligaments, tendons and gentle compression of bones and joints. It’s a wonderful practice for all levels. Beginners and experienced yogis will benefit from the mindfully designed movements, students with limited mobility and pregnant students are welcome. Accessible for all body types. Whether you are new to yoga, in search of something more grounding, enjoy running or biking, or you sit or stand a lot for work, you will find balance and relief from tightness and tension. Yoga Basics. New to yoga? Interested in building a solid foundation for your yoga practice? This class will teach you the basics of yoga in a supportive environment appropriate for anyone with a desire to improve their physical and mental health. Our mission is to make yoga accessible to everyone regardless of age, experience or flexibility. Students work within their own abilities. This slow paced class is great for beginners who wish to start a yoga practice, as well as seasoned practitioners who wish to review. We will focus on developing clear and safe alignment in foundational poses linking breath, body and mind. Students will be introduced to yoga postures through step-by-step verbal description and demonstration. You don’t need to be able to touch your toes, you just have to have a willingness to try. Mats are available to use for free. Beginner friendly.
Mindful Yoga. Mindfulness means paying attention in a particular way, in the present moment, and non-judgmentally. Mindful yoga classes are based on the practices of yoga postures and mindfulness meditation, allowing one to become familiar with the body, create a reflective pause, and create the time to go inward. Classes begin with a centering practice focusing on breathing, transitioning from the events of the day. Mindful movement linked with the breath follows, including upper and lower body warm-ups, supine, seated and standing poses. Poses may be held for several breaths. Props such as straps, blankets, and blocks may be used to achieve proper alignment and comfort. A deep relaxation at the end of class seals the beneficial effects of the practice. Beginner friendly.
Restorative Yoga with Reiki. A gentle practice incorporating the use of props (bolsters, blankets, and blocks) which allow the body to feel supported and relaxed. Restorative yoga helps reduce stress by calming the nervous system, and relieves tension in the body. Reiki is a Japanese form of energy medicine that aids in stress reduction and relaxation. It is a healing practice that can help restore balance and harmony to our physical, emotional, and mental selves. It is administered by “laying on hands” and is based on the idea that an unseen “life force energy” flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. Most people feel a sense of relaxation, peace, calmness, and well-being. Beginner friendly.
Breathe, focus, move, stretch, and balance. This practice consists of postures designed to synchronize breath with movement. The class moves at a smoothly flowing, moderately rigorous pace with attention to proper alignment, introducing students to postures essential for strength, flexibility and balance. Modifications are provided to accommodate beginner students. This class assists in bringing the mind into a state of balance and stillness. There may also be opportunities to safely explore more challenging poses such as arm balances and inversions.
Yoga for Stress & Anxiety. Yoga can be a powerful tool to calm the nervous system. Yoga involves deep breathing, focus on postures, and stilling the mind. The aim of an anxiety alleviating practice is to practice movements that calm, help to keep you in the moment, and to aid in not feeling rushed. By transferring focus and attention to the body and breath, yoga can help to temper anxiety while also releasing physical tension. Classes will include breathing exercises, gentle postures, and guided meditation. Classes may also include mudras (hand gestures) and the use of essential oils. Regular yoga practice can help you stay calm and relaxed in daily life, and can also give you the strength to face events as they come without restlessness. Reiki energy healing may also be offered. Yoga & Self-Massage . As a Certified Yoga Tune Up® Instructor, Monica guides you through a class that teaches students how to move with increased awareness and intelligence. Class includes stretching, strength building, joint control and self-massage via ball-rolling techniques. Additionally, this class aids in recovery and will keep your joints and tissues healthy while reducing injuries and enhancing performance. The overall intention is to awaken the importance of body awareness, proper postural alignment, and functional movement patterns. Come and explore your body in a completely different way!
